The PI Book Ends sit somewhere between functional object and sculpture. Placed on open shelving or a sideboard, they bring weight and shape to a surface even before books are added.
Jaqi selected them for the irregular carved silhouette and the way the solid mahogany catches light across its grain. There’s a rawness to the form that keeps shelving from feeling overly polished or arranged.
Bookshelves tend to work best when they hold more than books alone. Objects with texture, pieces collected over time. Space left open intentionally.
Designed by Alain van Havre for Ethnicraft, each piece is hand-finished in solid mahogany with a dark brown varnish. Variations in grain, curve and surface are left visible as part of the material.
